What We’re All About

Husky Cycling provides training and racing opportunities to UW students, staff, and faculty. We always welcome new members and hope you’ll join us for a ride sometime soon.

Our goal is to build an inclusive bike team that supports riders at all levels. We work hard when we train, go fast on race days, and always find a way to enjoy ourselves and support each other. We have novices and experienced riders on our team. We are proudly student-run, and thanks to the fantastic Seattle cycling community, we get to train, race, and hang with some seriously fast (and fun) riders right here in the PNW.

Contact us, join our Discord server, and get out on a group ride to get involved!

Weekly group rides depart the Husky Union Building (HUB) on Saturdays at 9:00 AM during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters.

Who we are

inclusive and supportive

We want everyone to feel like they belong on a bike, even though cycling can seem like a tough sport to break into at times. What’s with all the tight clothes? What about the lingo? We were all beginners at some point and we are all still learning and growing together on the bike. We embrace a beginner’s mindset and always look to help each other out. Many of us had never done a group ride or even raced before coming to UW. There really is no better way to get into cycling than in the collegiate cycling scene.

The University of Washington Club Sports Membership is open to students, faculty, and staff only. Husky Cycling Club does not discriminate based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, citizenship, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, disability, or veteran status.

Fun and friendly

Each of us is a part of Husky Cycling because we want to be, and everyone has their own slightly different reason for getting on their bike. Ultimately, we all show up to have a good time - so we firmly believe that riding bikes should be fun. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. It’s just bikes!

We are super lucky to ride bikes in Seattle, where there is a great cycling community and even stronger bike culture in general. We’re proud to rep UW in this awesome community by always riding the right way.

Dan races in his UW kit against two other cyclists. They're going fast!

we want to go fast (when the time is right)

We do race bikes, which means we want to go fast. We train hard and push ourselves and each other to achieve our personal and team goals. We talk tactics, make race plans, and occasionally geek out over tech we probably can’t afford (yet). We also train smart, making sure to prioritize our mental and physical health above the results we might find on the bike. We know that racing is one part of being balanced and happy people, which means there are times to go slow - like on the Burke, or when you’re out for a Sunday coffee ride.
